LAMP’s social workers help people with a range of concerns including income support, family and relationship issues, feelings of depression and anxiety, trauma counselling, coping with illness, and dealing with past or current abuse and managing drug/alcohol use.  Once referral and intake happen, we focus on what the client presents as their needs and priorities with a client-centered approach.

  • You will be offered up to 8 sessions to address your concerns.
  • Each counselling session lasts approximately 45 minutes.
  • In your first session you and the social worker will identify some of your concerns and goals.
  • Our social worker can offer you additional resources and referrals that will support you in meeting your goals.
  • Our social workers help clients discover their own strengths, work with them to find suitable solutions to their problems, and access resources in the community.
  • For more information about counselling and the referral process: LAMP Social Work Program Brochure (add link) and attachment.

Crisis Support and Resources

Frequently Asked Questions

Referred clients are screened to determine if the service will be able to best meet their needs.

If suitable to continue with service, the client will be able to receive up to eight (8) sessions.

Following the initial assessment, if a client requires a greater degree of support than what can be provided within the scope of this service, a referral will be made to one of LAMP’s partner agencies, such as COTA, St. Joseph’s Health Centre, and CAMH.

Once the client referral has been received, contact initiates for screening to determine if the service can meet their needs and/or if alternative referral is required. Appointments will be booked as soon as possible, however, the exact time frame depends on the number of client referrals. If our wait list becomes too long, we will notify you about our plans to pause accepting referrals.

You can always contact the Mental Health Worker directly to address any questions or concerns. The Mental Health Worker’s contact information is available here.

Adults 18 years of age and older who do not have access to mental health services through benefits or alternative options.   All referrals must be made by a primary care physician registered to this program and who practice in our lakeshore service area.  Physicians in program cannot be connected to a Family Health Team or a Community Health Centre.

Clients cannot self-refer.
