We are marking history today, a historic moment in time, building reconciliation with our Indigenous peoples, the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Today we commit to learning the truth about the residential school system, reconciliation for the trauma and impact it has on Indigenous culture. We commit to learning the truth, the history of our Indigenous Peoples, learning the truth about Canada’s history of colonialism, taking people’s land away and settling on it as our own. It is our duty to educate ourselves, learn the truth and build relations with our Indigenous Peoples to acknowledge the horrible history and honour their experience and suffering.
