(00:07) Hello, my name is Keddone and I’m one of the co-chairs of the Mississauga Halton Health Equity Community of Practice. A community of practice was created to provide increased opportunities for community organizations to come together and advance their health equity agendas.

(00:23) You may be wondering what exactly is a community of practice and why should I join? That’s a good question. A community of practice is a learning partnership among people who find it useful to learn from and with each other about a particular domain – and in this case, that’s health equity. They use each other’s experience of practice as a learning resource.

(00:49) In other words, a community of practice is a group of people who meet regularly around a specific topic to collaborate and build knowledge. So, who are we? We’re an ongoing group of health and social service organizations across Mississauga Halton and within Peel focused on advancing health equity through collaboration, capacity building, and collective impact.

(01:12) So, what are the benefits of attending the health equity community of practice meetings? You’ll have the opportunity to participate in the creation of new and useful tools like the Anti-Black Racism Survey that was developed by the COP and is now used. You’ll have access to conferences, educational resources, and experiential learning events. It may help you align with funding agreements related to equity education and advance your organization’s health equity plan. And finally, you’ll be able to connect with people who you might not otherwise interact with.
